History of the Temple
Sri Karpaka Vinayagar Temple at Pillayarpatti is one of the most ancient rock-cut temples in Tamil Nadu, believed to be over 1,600 years old. The temple is famous for its rock-cut image of Lord Ganesha, known as Karpaka Vinayagar, carved directly from stone. Unlike typical Ganesha idols, this form has only two arms.
The temple was developed by the ancient Pandya kings and later patronized by the Chettiar community. Lord Karpaka Vinayagar is worshipped as the wish-fulfilling deity, and devotees believe that sincere prayers here remove obstacles and bring prosperity. The temple architecture reflects early Dravidian rock-cut style and holds immense religious and historical significance.
