The temple is located about 14–20 km from Honnavar town in Uttara Kannada district. It is well connected by road to major cities in Karnataka via NH-66 along the Konkan coast.

Delhi – To – Idagunji Ganapathi Temple

  • By Air: Take a flight from Delhi to either Hubballi, Mangaluru, or Goa (Dabolim) Airport. From the airport, hire a taxi or take a bus to Idagunji via Honnavar.
  • By Train: Take a train from Delhi towards the Konkan Railway route, with Honnavar, Murudeshwar, or Kumta as convenient stations. From the station, travel by road to the temple.
  • By Road: A long-distance road journey of over 1,900 km; not generally preferred but possible via national highways toward Karnataka coastal region.

Ahmedabad – To – Idagunji Ganapathi Temple

  • By Air: Fly from Ahmedabad to either Goa (Dabolim), Mangaluru, or Hubballi Airport. Continue the journey to Idagunji by taxi or bus via Honnavar.
  • By Train: Take a train from Ahmedabad toward the Konkan Railway line, alighting at Honnavar, Murudeshwar, or Kumta. Proceed by road to reach the temple.
  • By Road: Approximately 1,300–1,400 km by road, traveling via Maharashtra and entering coastal Karnataka; buses and self-drive options are available.

History of the Temple

Idagunji Ganapathi Temple is one of the most revered temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha in Karnataka. It is located in Idagunji village in Honnavar Taluk of Uttara Kannada district. According to legend, the sage Narada visited this place after witnessing the devastation caused by the great deluge. He sought guidance from Lord Krishna regarding restoring order in the world. On Lord Krishna’s instructions, a ritual was performed here to invoke Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. The idol at Idagunji is unique, depicting Lord Ganesha in a standing posture with two arms holding a lotus and a modak. The temple is believed to date back to ancient times and has remained a major pilgrimage center, attracting millions of devotees especially from coastal Karnataka and Maharashtra.
