Rama Avatar

Bhagwan Rama – Avatar of Lord Vishnu

Bhagwan Rama is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism and is the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, the Preserver in the Hindu Trinity (Trimurti). Lord Rama symbolizes righteousness (Dharma), truth, compassion, and ideal conduct. His life and teachings are primarily described in the ancient epic Ramayana, written by Maharishi Valmiki.

Birth of Lord Rama

Lord Rama was born in the city of Ayodhya to King Dasharatha of the Ikshvaku dynasty and Queen Kaushalya. His birth took place during the Treta Yuga. Lord Vishnu took the form of Rama to destroy the demon king Ravana and restore Dharma on Earth.

Purpose of the Avatar

Ravana, the king of Lanka, had become powerful due to a boon that made him nearly invincible. His tyranny caused immense suffering to humans and sages. Lord Vishnu incarnated as Rama to defeat Ravana and re-establish moral order.

Life and Exile

Rama married Sita, daughter of King Janaka. Due to palace intrigue, Rama accepted a 14-year exile in the forest along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana. During this exile, Sita was abducted by Ravana.

War with Ravana

With the help of Hanuman and the Vanara (monkey) army led by Sugriva, Rama crossed the ocean to Lanka. After a great battle, Rama defeated and killed Ravana, freeing Sita and ending his reign of terror.

Return to Ayodhya

After completing the exile, Rama returned to Ayodhya and was crowned king. His rule, known as Rama Rajya, is remembered as an era of peace, justice, and prosperity.

Spiritual Significance

Lord Rama is worshipped as Maryada Purushottam, the ideal man. His life teaches devotion, duty, sacrifice, and adherence to Dharma. As an avatar of Vishnu, Rama’s mission was to protect the good and destroy evil.
