About History of the Temple

Takht Sri Hazur Sahib is one of the five Takhts (seats of authority) in Sikhism. It is located in Nanded, Maharashtra, on the banks of the Godavari River. This sacred place marks the site where Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru, spent his final days and left his earthly body in 1708.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji declared the Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal Guru of the Sikhs at this place. The Takht was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh between 1832 and 1837. The complex preserves several personal weapons and articles of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, making it a highly revered pilgrimage site for Sikhs across the world.
