How to Reach
Delhi to Sravasti:
- By Air: Nearest airport is Lucknow Airport (approx. 170 km from Sravasti). Flights available from Delhi to Lucknow, then taxi/bus to Sravasti.
- By Train: Trains available from Delhi to Balrampur Railway Station (nearest station, approx. 17 km from Sravasti). From there taxi/local transport is available.
- By Road: Direct buses are not frequent. One can travel via Lucknow and then proceed to Sravasti by road
Ahmedabad to Sravasti:
- By Air: Nearest airport is Lucknow Airport. Flights available from Ahmedabad to Lucknow, then travel by taxi/bus to Sravasti.
- By Train: Train connectivity is available from Ahmedabad to Gorakhpur/Balrampur, but routes may require changes.
- By Road: Long-distance travel by road is possible but not recommended; better to travel via flight/train.
History of the Temple
Sravasti holds immense importance in Buddhism as it is one of the six major Buddhist pilgrimage sites. It is believed that Lord Buddha spent 24 rainy seasons (varshas) here, mostly at Jetavana Monastery, built by the wealthy merchant Anathapindika. Sravasti was also the site of many of Buddha’s miracles and profound teachings. Major religious structures include Jetavana, Anandakuti, and other ancient stupas and monasteries, visited by devotees from around the world.
