How to Reach

Delhi – To – Shravasti:

  • By Air: Nearest airport – Lucknow (Approx. 170 km). From Lucknow, taxis/buses are available.
  • By Train: Nearest railway station – Balrampur (Approx. 20 km).
  • By Road: Delhi → Lucknow → Shravasti (Approx. 700 km).

Delhi – To – Kapilavastu:

  • By Air: Nearest airport – Gorakhpur (Approx. 150 km).
  • By Train: Nearest major station – Gorakhpur.
  • By Road: Delhi → Gorakhpur → Kapilavastu (Approx. 780 km).

Ahmedabad – To – Shravasti:

  • By Air: Ahmedabad → Lucknow (Connecting flights). Then travel by road.
  • By Train: No direct train; trains available to Lucknow/Gorakhpur and onward by road
  • By Road: Approx. 1,450+ km.

Ahmedabad – To – Kapilavastu:

  • By Air: Ahmedabad → Gorakhpur (via Delhi/Mumbai). Then by road
  • By Train: No direct train; reach Gorakhpur or Basti, then travel by road.

History of the Temple

Shravasti:
Shravasti is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage destinations. It was one of the favorite places of Lord Buddha, who spent 24 rainy seasons here at Jetavana Monastery, founded by Anathapindika. Many of Buddha’s famous sermons and miracles were performed in Shravasti, including the Twin Miracle. The site today includes Jetavana, Ananda Bodhi Tree, and several ancient stupas.

Kapilavastu:
Kapilavastu is the ancient kingdom of the Shakya dynasty and the childhood home of Prince Siddhartha Gautama (Lord Buddha). It is here that Siddhartha spent his early life before renouncing worldly life at the age of 29. The archaeological remains of Kapilavastu include stupas, viharas, and ruins dating back more than 2,500 years. Today, Kapilavastu serves as an important Buddhist heritage site representing Buddha’s early life and the roots of Buddhism.

    • Shravasti and Kapilavastu are not Hindu temples. They are ancient Buddhist pilgrimage sites associated with Lord Buddha. Hence, Hindu temple poojas and rituals are not performed at these locations.
