About the History of the Temple
The Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple in Varanasi is one of the most revered temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It was established in the early 16th century by the Hindu saint and poet Goswami Tulsidas, the author of the Ramcharitmanas. It is believed that Tulsidas had a divine vision of Lord Hanuman at this exact spot, after which he founded the temple.
The name “Sankat Mochan” means “the reliever of troubles,” signifying that devotees believe Hanuman removes obstacles and difficulties from their lives. The temple is also famous for its serene environment, devotional hymns, and the special “Hanuman Chalisa” recitations. It is located near the Assi Ghat area in Varanasi and is an important spiritual center for pilgrims.
