History of the Temple
Guhyeshwari Temple, located near the sacred Bagmati River in Kathmandu, is one of the Shakti Peethas and is dedicated to Goddess Guhyeshwari, a form of Goddess Parvati. According to legend, the temple marks the spot where the ‘yoni’ of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva carried her body across the universe. King Pratap Malla of Nepal is credited with constructing the temple in the 17th century. It is regarded as highly sacred in both Hinduism and Tantric practices, drawing pilgrims from Nepal, India, and other regions.
