History of the Temple
Narayan Sarovar:
Narayan Sarovar is considered one of the five holy lakes (Panch Sarovar) in Hinduism. It is believed to be associated with Lord Vishnu, who is worshipped here as Narayan. The temple complex was built and renovated over centuries by various rulers, including the Jadeja rulers of Kutch. The site holds immense religious importance, especially mentioned in ancient texts like the Bhagavata Purana.
Koteshwar Temple:
Built using durable sandstone, the temple features a sanctum (deul) and a hall (jagamohana). It marks an important architectural shift with the introduction of iron beams in construction. The temple complex also houses several subsidiary shrines and showcases the artistic and cultural richness of medieval Odisha.
