About History of the Temple
Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva,
mentioned in the Shiva Purana. The temple is located near Dwarka in Gujarat,
close to the Arabian Sea.
According to legend, Lord Shiva appeared here to protect his devotee Supriya
from the demon Daruka, who ruled Darukavana. After destroying the demon,
Lord Shiva manifested as the Jyotirlinga known as Nageshwar.
The Jyotirlinga symbolizes protection from poison, evil forces, and negative
energies. The temple complex also features a massive 25-meter-tall statue
of Lord Shiva, making it a major landmark for pilgrims.
