History of the Temple
Mithila Shaktipeeth, also known as Sita Kund, is located at the Bihar–Nepal border in the Sitamarhi region. It is believed to be one of the sacred Shaktipeeths where parts of Goddess Sati are said to have fallen during Lord Shiva’s Tandava. According to legends, Sita Kund is the place where Goddess Sita underwent the Agni Pariksha and emerged unscathed, symbolizing purity and divine grace. The site is revered by devotees from India and Nepal and holds deep mythological and cultural significance. Pilgrims visit throughout the year, especially during festivals, to offer prayers and seek blessings from the divine feminine energy worshipped here.
