History of the Temple
Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas,
located on the western bank of the sacred River Ganga in Varanasi.
Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Vishwanath, the Lord of the Universe.
The current structure was built in 1780 by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh later donated 1 ton of gold for the temple dome.
It is believed that visiting Kashi Vishwanath grants moksha.
In 2021, the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor improved access from the Ganga.
