History of the Temple
Kanipakam Vinayaka Temple, also known as Sri Varasidhi Vinayaka Swamy Temple, is located in Kanipakam village in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The presiding deity is Lord Ganesha, believed to be a self-manifested (swayambhu) idol emerging from a well filled with sacred water. According to legend, the idol was discovered when three brothers, who were differently abled, tried to dig a well for water. When their tool struck a stone, blood began to ooze from it, and the well was filled. Miraculously, the brothers were cured of their disabilities. The temple was originally built during the Chola period in the 11th century and later renovated and expanded by the Vijayanagara rulers. The unique feature of the temple is that the idol continues to increase in size and the well is always filled with water, symbolizing divine presence.
