About the History of the Temple

Hanuman Dhara is a revered hilltop shrine in Chitrakoot. According to legend, when Lord Hanuman returned after burning Lanka, his tail was aflame. To relieve him, Lord Rama shot an arrow into the rock, creating a stream of water that cooled Hanuman. This continuous divine stream is known as ‘Dhara’. The temple features a striking red-stone idol of Hanuman, over which the sacred water flows. Chitrakoot itself is a significant spiritual region connected with the exile period of Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana. The temple is believed to fulfill the wishes of sincere devotees.
