By Air:

• The nearest airport is Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar, approximately 25 km away. From the airport, taxis and buses are easily available to Tarn Taran.

By Train:

• Tarn Taran Junction Railway Station is well connected to Amritsar and other major cities of Punjab. From the station, the Gurdwara is about 2 km and can be reached by auto-rickshaw or taxi.

By Road:

• Tarn Taran is well connected by road to Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and other cities through state highways and national highways.

Delhi to Gurdwara Tarn Taran Sahib
By Air:

• Take a flight from Delhi to Amritsar (about 1.5 hours). From Amritsar, travel by road to Tarn Taran (about 45 minutes).

By Train:

• Several trains run from New Delhi to Amritsar. From Amritsar railway station, Tarn Taran can be reached by local train or road transport.

By Road:

• Travel via NH44 towards Amritsar. The journey takes approximately 8–9 hours by car or bus.

Ahmedabad to Gurdwara Tarn Taran Sahib
By Air:

• Take a flight from Ahmedabad to Amritsar (direct or via Delhi). From Amritsar, travel by road to Tarn Taran.

By Train:

• Trains are available from Ahmedabad to Amritsar or nearby major stations. From Amritsar, proceed to Tarn Taran by road or local train.

By Road:

• Long-distance buses and private vehicles can be used, though the journey may take 20–22 hours.

About History of the Temple

Gurdwara Tarn Taran Sahib was founded by the fifth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, in the year 1590. Guru Ji laid the foundation stone of the town of Tarn Taran and initiated the excavation of a large sacred water tank (Sarovar), which later became one of the largest Sarovars in the Sikh religious tradition.

The name ‘Tarn Taran’ means ‘the pool that helps one cross the worldly ocean,’ symbolizing spiritual liberation. The Sarovar was especially associated with healing, and devotees believed that bathing in its waters could cure diseases, particularly leprosy.

Over time, the Gurdwara developed into an important center of Sikh worship and learning. It also played a significant role during the Sikh reform movement (Singh Sabha Movement) in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Gurdwara Tarn Taran Sahib stands as a major pilgrimage site, attracting thousands of devotees from India and around the world.
