History of the Temple
Dwarkamai Masjid is one of the most sacred places in Shirdi, Maharashtra, closely associated with Sai Baba of Shirdi. Originally an old dilapidated mosque, it became Sai Baba’s residence after he arrived in Shirdi in the mid-19th century. Sai Baba lived here for nearly 60 years, guiding devotees with teachings of faith (‘Shraddha’) and patience (‘Saburi’).
Dwarkamai symbolizes the unity of religions, as Sai Baba lit the sacred Dhuni (holy fire) here, which continues to burn even today. Inside Dwarkamai, one can see the stone on which Sai Baba sat, the grinding stone used by him, and the Dhuni that represents spiritual energy and blessings.
