How to Reach

Delhi to Temple:

  • By Air: Flights available from Delhi to Gorakhpur Airport (approx. 50 km from Kushinagar). Taxis are available from the airport.
  • By Train: Trains available from Delhi to Gorakhpur Junction; onward road travel to Kushinagar.
  • By Road: Approx. 730 km. Can be reached by NH routes via Lucknow and Gorakhpur.

Ahmedabad to Temple:

  • Flight or train from Ahmedabad to Goa.
  • From Goa city/panaji/airport, travel to Valpoi, then to Nagargao/Nagargaon.
  • Private taxi recommended due to limited transport in the final stretch.

History of the Temple

– The Brahma Karmali Temple is located in Nagargao, near Valpoi in Sattari taluka, Goa.
– Dedicated to Lord Brahma; temples devoted solely to Brahma are rare in India.
– The black-stone idol dates to the 12th century from the Kadamba dynasty.
– Originally housed in Carambolim (Karmali), it was moved in 1541 during Portuguese rule to protect it from destruction.
– The idol is six feet tall, carved from single black basalt stone with four heads and four arms.
– Temple architecture includes a plinth, side entrances, and a four-sided dome.
