History of the Temple
Bhramari Devi Temple, also known as Trisrota Shakti Peeth, is one of the significant Shakti Peethas in India. According to mythology, when Lord Shiva carried the charred body of Goddess Sati, her left leg is believed to have fallen at this location in Cooch Behar, West Bengal. The presiding deity, Goddess Bhramari, is considered a fierce form of Devi who appeared to destroy demons using swarms of bees (Bhramara). The temple is located near the river Trisrota, giving it the name Trisrota Peeth. It continues to be an important pilgrimage site for devotees of the Shakta tradition.
