History of Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga
Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva,
located in the Sahyadri ranges of Maharashtra.
According to legend, Lord Shiva appeared here as Bhima-Shankar after
defeating the demon Bhima, son of Kumbhakarna. The temple is mentioned in ancient
Puranas and medieval texts.
The architecture reflects a blend of old and new styles, and it is believed
that the holy river Bhima originates from this sacred region, adding to its
spiritual importance.
