History of the Temple

Bhairav Parvat (Avanti Shaktipeeth) is one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas. It is believed that the upper lip of Goddess Sati fell here. The shrine lies on Bhairav Hills near the Shipra River in Ujjain, and the presiding deity is Goddess Avanti Devi.
