History of the Temple

• Dedicated to Ashta Lakshmi – eight forms of Goddess Lakshmi.
• Foundation stone laid in January 1974 with guidance of Kanchi Mutt saints.
• Temple consecrated on 5 April 1976.
• Architecture inspired by Sundara Varadaraja Perumal Temple, Uthiramerur.
• Multi-level structure with nine shrines including Lakshmi–Vishnu main sanctum.
• Located near Elliot’s Beach, symbolizing Lakshmi’s emergence from the sea.
