History of the Temple
Ahobilam is one of the most sacred sites dedicated to Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Located in the Nallamala Hills of Andhra Pradesh, Ahobilam is unique as it houses nine shrines known as Nava Narasimha temples. According to legend, Lord Narasimha appeared here to protect his devotee Prahlada and destroy the demon king Hiranyakashipu. The region is mentioned in ancient scriptures and is revered by Srivaishnavas. The Ahobila Mutt, founded by Sri Adivan Satakopa Jeeyar, is historically linked with this sacred site. The temples are spread across Upper and Lower Ahobilam, surrounded by dense forests and natural beauty.
