About History of the Temple

Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is one of the most prominent Sikh gurdwaras in Delhi. It is associated with the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji, who stayed here in 1664. During his stay, Delhi was suffering from a severe outbreak of smallpox and cholera. Guru Ji helped the sick by distributing sanctified water, which brought relief to many people.

The site originally belonged to Raja Jai Singh as a bungalow (Bangla), hence the name Bangla Sahib. After Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji attained martyrdom at a very young age, the place became a sacred site. Today, the gurdwara stands as a symbol of compassion, service, and faith, offering free meals (Langar) to thousands of devotees daily regardless of caste, religion, or background.
