About History of the Temple

Gurdwara Nanak Piao is one of the most significant historical Sikh shrines in Delhi. It is associated with the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. During one of his travels (Udasis) around 1505 AD, Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited this area, which at that time was outside the city of Delhi. He observed that travelers passing through the region suffered greatly due to the lack of drinking water. Out of compassion, Guru Nanak Dev Ji arranged for a water well and offered free drinking water (Piao) to all travelers. The term ‘Piao’ means a place where water is freely served to passersby. The Gurdwara stands today as a symbol of selfless service, compassion, and equality.
