About History of the Temple
Takht Sri Damdama Sahib is one of the five Takhts (seats of authority) in Sikhism. It is located in Talwandi Sabo, Punjab. This sacred place is associated with Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru, who stayed here in 1706. During his stay, Guru Gobind Singh Ji prepared the final authorized version of the Guru Granth Sahib with the assistance of Bhai Mani Singh.
The place is known as ‘Damdama’, meaning a resting place, as the Guru took rest here after battles with Mughal forces. Due to its immense religious importance, it was declared a Takht in 1966 by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). Today, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib stands as a major center of Sikh learning, devotion, and pilgrimage.
