History of the Temple

Kodandarama Temple at Vontimitta in Andhra Pradesh is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Rama, along with Goddess Sita and Lord Lakshmana. The temple is renowned for its magnificent architectural style of the Vijayanagara period and is believed to date back to the 16th century. It is unique because the idols of Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana are carved from a single stone. The temple is also associated with the famous poets Bammera Potana and Vavilakolanu Subba Rao, who praised Lord Rama in their devotional works. The temple is an important pilgrimage site and is especially famous for the grand celebration of Sri Rama Navami every year.
