History of the Temple
Shrinathji Temple, located in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, is one of the most revered temples dedicated to Lord Krishna, depicting Him as a seven-year-old child lifting the Govardhan Hill. The idol of Shrinathji was originally worshipped in Vrindavan. In the late 17th century, to protect the deity from Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, the idol was moved towards Mewar.
During the journey, the chariot transporting the deity got stuck near the village of Siyad (now Nathdwara). Considering this a divine sign, Maharana Raj Singh of Mewar built a temple at that very spot in 1672. The temple is built in traditional Haveli-style architecture and follows Pushtimarg traditions established by Vallabhacharya.
The temple is renowned for its eight daily darshans and festivals, where the divine image is adorned with different outfits and ornaments representing various moods of Lord Krishna. Today, Shrinathji Temple attracts millions of devotees every year and remains a spiritual and cultural center of Vaishnavism.
