According to legend, Rukmini once invited Sage Durvasa for a meal. During their journey, she became thirsty, and Lord Krishna created Ganga water for her to drink. Since the sage was not offered water first, he became upset and cursed the divine couple to live separately. This is why the shrine of Rukmini Devi stands apart from the main Dwarkadhish Temple.
