History of the Temple
Govardhan Parikrama is a sacred pilgrimage associated with Lord Krishna and the Govardhan Hill located near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill on his little finger to protect the people of Braj from the wrath of Lord Indra, who had sent torrential rains. This event established the importance of devotion and humility.
The parikrama (circumambulation) of Govardhan Hill covers approximately 21 kilometers and includes important sacred spots such as Radha Kund, Shyam Kund, Mansi Ganga, and Kusum Sarovar. Devotees perform the parikrama on foot as an act of devotion, especially during Govardhan Puja and the holy month of Kartik.
Govardhan Parikrama symbolizes surrender, faith, and gratitude towards Lord Krishna and remains one of the most important pilgrimages in the Braj region.
