History of the Temple
Nand Bhawan, located atop Nandishwar Hill in Nandgaon, is believed to be the residence of Nanda Maharaj, the foster father of Lord Krishna. According to tradition, Krishna spent His early childhood here after moving from Gokul for safety from Kansa’s demons. The temple marks the place where Krishna lived with Mother Yashoda, Nanda Baba, and His brother Balarama.
The present structure is constructed in classical Braj architectural style and is said to be built by devotees and kings over different periods. Inside the temple, idols of Krishna, Balarama, Yashoda, Nanda, and other family members are worshipped. The temple also offers a panoramic view of Nandgaon and is an important pilgrimage destination for devotees tracing Krishna’s Bal Leelas.
