History of the Temple
Banke Bihari Temple, located in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, is one of the most revered temples of Lord Krishna. The deity ‘Banke Bihari’ represents Lord Krishna in Tribhanga posture. The temple was established by Swami Haridas, a great saint and musician of the Nimbarka Sampradaya, in the 16th century. The idol of Banke Bihari is said to have manifested from the divine vision granted to Swami Haridas. Unlike traditional temples, the darshan here is unique—curtains open and close repeatedly to protect devotees from the intense spiritual energy of the deity. The temple is visited by millions of devotees annually and remains a vibrant center of Krishna devotion.
