History of the Temple

The Shri Osian Temple, located in Osian (near Jodhpur, Rajasthan), is an ancient center of Jain and Hindu worship.

Osian is known as the ‘Khajuraho of Rajasthan’ due to its beautifully sculpted temples.

The main Jain temple is dedicated to Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara.

The temple dates back to around the 8th century and was built under the rule of the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty.

The architecture reflects intricate carvings, detailed pillars, and exquisite artwork.

Osian was once a major trading hub and religious center, having over 100 temples in ancient times; about 18 survive today.
