History of the Temple

Bhagsu Naag Devta Temple is an ancient shrine dedicated to Naag Devta (the serpent god) and is believed to be over 5,000 years old. According to local legend, King Bhagsu, after whom the temple and village are named, once stole water from a sacred lake belonging to Naag Devta. When the deity discovered this, the king realized his mistake and prayed for forgiveness. Naag Devta forgave him, and the place came to be known as Bhagsu.

The temple is also closely associated with Lord Shiva, as serpents are an important symbol in Shaivite tradition. Situated amidst the Dhauladhar ranges and near the famous Bhagsu Waterfall, the temple holds both religious and natural significance.
