How to Reach

Delhi – To – Kamakshi Amman Temple:

  • By Air: Fly from Delhi to Chennai International Airport. From Chennai, Kanchipuram is around 75 km and can be reached by taxi or bus.
  • By Train: Direct trains from New Delhi to Chennai or Arakkonam, then take a connecting train/bus to Kanchipuram.
  • By Road: Long-distance road travel is possible but not preferred due to distance (approx. 2,200 km).

Ahmedabad – To – Kamakshi Amman Temple:

  • By Air: Fly from Ahmedabad to Chennai International Airport. Then travel by taxi or bus to Kanchipuram.
  • By Train: Trains available from Ahmedabad to Chennai or Arakkonam followed by local transport to Kanchipuram.
  • By Road: Approx. 1,600 km; road travel is possible but usually avoided due to long travel time.

History of the Temple

Kamakshi Amman Temple, located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, is one of the most significant temples dedicated to Goddess Parvati, worshipped here as Kamakshi. The temple is believed to have been built during the Pallava period, with later expansions by the Chola and Vijayanagara dynasties. The deity, Kamakshi, is revered as one of the three major Shakti forms (along with Madurai Meenakshi and Kashi Vishalakshi). The temple’s architecture reflects classical Dravidian style, and it has been a major spiritual center for devotees and saints like Adi Shankaracharya, who is said to have established the Sri Chakra here.
