About the History of the Temple
Hanuman Garhi in Ayodhya is one of the most revered temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is believed to have been constructed in the 17th century by the Nawab of Awadh. The temple stands atop a mound and requires climbing a series of steps to reach the sanctum. According to local legends, Lord Hanuman resided at this spot to protect Ayodhya and Lord Rama. The main shrine houses a child-form idol of Lord Hanuman seated on the lap of his mother, Anjani, a unique depiction rarely seen in other temples.
