Vaidyanath Shaktipeeth, also known as Baba Baidyanath Dham, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and also one of the 51 Shaktipeethas. According to legend, it is the site where the heart of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Shiva carried her body across the universe. The temple complex is ancient and holds immense spiritual significance. It is believed that Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva here to obtain boons and offered his ten heads, prompting Shiva to appear as a healer or ‘Vaidya’. Thus the temple became known as Vaidyanath.
