  • By Train: Direct trains available from New Delhi to Puri (e.g., Purushottam Express).

History of the Temple

The Puri Vimala Temple, located within the sacred premises of the Jagannath Temple complex in Puri, Odisha, is one of the 51 Shaktipeethas of Goddess Sati. According to ancient texts, the ‘Pada’ (feet) of Devi Sati fell at this divine spot, making it one of the holiest Shaktipeeth locations in India.

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Vimala, regarded as the Tantric consort of Lord Jagannath. Historically, all offerings to Lord Jagannath are considered incomplete unless they are first offered to Goddess Vimala, signifying her supreme importance in the temple rituals.

Architecturally, the temple showcases classic Kalinga-style stone construction and is believed to date back to the 9th century. The deity is worshipped as the guardian goddess of the Jagannath Temple and the presiding Shakti of Puri Dham.
