About the History of the Temple
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, located on Mandhata (Shivapuri) Island shaped like
the sacred ‘Om’, is one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
According to legend, the Devas prayed to Lord Shiva for protection from demons,
and Shiva manifested here as Omkareshwar. The temple is spiritually powerful
and deeply rooted in ancient mythology.
The island is surrounded by the holy River Narmada, symbolizing purity and
eternal energy. Worship at Omkareshwar is believed to grant liberation and
divine blessings.
